The cost of being a woman...

The cost of being a woman...

A woman's period is a completely natural occurrence but the waste we now produce from our periods is totally unnatural. Infact, it’s unbelievably wasteful.

Over half of the world’s population gets a period. Yes. Annually women bleed to the equivalent of 3 months out of the year. That’s a lot of flow yo! It’s estimated that a woman goes through 35+ disposable products (tampons and pads) per period. This can snowball to 11,000 kg of waste in her lifetime just from her period.

See, a lot of the disposable products on the shelf have plastic woven into the material. We now know that single use plastic is awful for our environment – it just doesn’t break down. Disposable period pads contain up to 90% plastic, a tampon contains over 6%. It can take up to 500 years for one sanitary product to break down in a landfill.

Grim fact: Your very first sanitary products you used as a young person are still out there, sweetheart. There has got to be a better way to defer this burden of waste from a natural thing... and there is.

The wave of reusable sanitary products is here, and we’re one of the brands championing sustainable periods. You can reduce your period waste to a mere fraction by switching to period proof undies, menstrual cups and reusable pads. It is truly a revolutionary change for women's health. 1 menstrual cup lasts you up to 10 years.

Our Love Luna Period Proof undies can last over 2 years if you wash them properly. The beauty of reusables is that you can REUSE them! It’s a sublime catch 22 because not only do you reduce your personal carbon footprint, but you ultimately save money too.

Being a woman doesn’t need to cost the earth!
